Outfitting Testimonials
"To anyone who is thinking about how they can create a lasting Elk hunting memory this is my story of mine:
If you're looking to immerse yourself in the raw, untamed beauty of the wilderness in Wyoming while experiencing the thrill of an elk hunt with some of the finest outfitters in the business, look no further than the Big Sandy Lodge. My recent expedition to this hidden gem nestled in the heart of nature left me utterly awestruck and rejuvenated. From the moment we arrived at base camp (The Lodge), it was evident that the team at Big Sandy Lodge was dedicated to providing an unforgettable experience. The Lodge itself was a relic and it offered the perfect atmosphere (large stone fireplaces) the first night to get acquainted with the outfitters and then again at the back end of our trip to fellowship while telling stories of our time in the backcountry. The Lodge is an experience in itself, but the real lasting memories were those created in the woods while elk hunting. Jase, his father and the rest of the guides/outfitters were such a pleasure to be around, and their good humor and patience was exactly what our crew (4 forty-year-olds from Florida) needed in order to make our trip special. These guys are absolute studs when it comes to elk hunting and to couple their hunting skills with the backcountry wilderness skills they possess, well it was hard to top. Each of our hunts were a huge success in terms of harvest as well as opportunities to hear and stalk elk. The woods were alive with bugling elk the entire trip. So much so that at night we would lay on our cots and fall asleep to the sounds of bugling every night. If you are looking for a hunt with an absolute PERFECT balance of raw, untamed adventure and well executed elk hunting then Big Sandy Lodge is a MUST! A trip with Jase, his father and the rest of the crew will leave you with a renewed appreciation for the wild places that still exist as well as give you an opportunity to acquire some amazing elk hunting skills you can use the rest of your life. The experience is hard to describe! I could go on and on about this trip but it's one that you need to book and experience, not read about. Thank you all at Big Sandy for making this the most memorable trip of my life!" - Jeb Mulock
"We had the opportunity to hunt with Big Sandy in 2020:
We were seeking a true horseback in and camp in the wilderness experience and Big Sandy didn't disappoint! I'm an experienced hunter and have been with outfitters from Canada, New Mexico, Colorado to Africa and will say this hunt with this outfitter is a supreme experience. They have a unique setup with a high-altitude lodge that serves as your base camp and from there you horse back into the wilderness to the hunting camp. Accommodations were great from the cabins at the base camp, horses and tack to the walled tents at our hunting camp. Details were thought of and provided. Everyone within the outfit from guides to wranglers to camp cook were friendly, fun, and all worked very hard to ensure we were comfortable and successful. Our guides were experienced and very knowledgeable of the area and terrain that we were hunting. We had 6 hunters in camp and a 50% success rate with 3 nice 6x6 harvested, 5 of 6 hunters had an opportunity at a mature bull. Big Sandy the family run outfitter that cares and is genuine, we left as friends. The hunting terrain and scenery is breathtaking, hands down the most beautiful hunt I've been on. I returned with my wife in the summer of 2023 so she could experience the beauty of the area. As soon as we draw a tag we will be back, fingers crossed this year!" - Derrick Stewart
"Jase and the crew at Big Sandy Lodge are the real deal:
I thoroughly enjoyed my hunt with them and plan to return again as soon as I have another elk tag. Hunting with Big Sandy Lodge is as authentic of a backcountry experience as you can get. The rustic lodge base camp, horseback transportation and drop camp will take you back in time and prepare you for an awesome remote hunting experience. Don't expect anything fancy here, this is not a hunt for someone who prefers a cushy lodge and fancy meals. When the hunt begins, be prepared for beautiful scenery and experienced guides that will put you on the elk if they are there. We hunted the early rifle season and the elk were in full rut and the action was fast paced most of the time. The elk heard in the Wind River Range appeared very healthy, we had lots of opportunity and 3 of 4 hunters tagged out. These guys have tremendous respect for the environment and your elk when it hits the ground. Our meat and skulls were taken care of and packed out by the Big Sandy Lodge team. It was obvious that they wanted everyone to have a great hunt and to tag out. Selfishly I don't want these guys to become so busy it becomes difficult to book with them every opportunity I have." - Wade Gingerich
